Palantir Technologies has announced a new contract with the U.S. government, bringing artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to various military branches through its Maven Smart System. This deal is worth up to $99.8 million over the next five years, adding around $20 million in revenue per year.

The company, known for its top-notch data analytics and AI technologies, has supported the government in critical tasks like counterterrorism and COVID-19 tracking. While Palantir has also found success in the private sector, with customers like Nebraska Medicine and BP adopting its Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP), its growth in the government sector is gaining pace. In the second quarter, its government segment saw 23% year-over-year growth, generating $371 million.

However, while Palantir’s overall revenue growth is impressive—hitting 27% in Q2—the company’s stock valuation remains a point of concern. Its forward price-to-sales ratio is about 25 times the 2025 revenue estimates, which is typically expected for companies projecting at least 50% growth.

The new U.S. government deal will slightly boost revenue but isn’t a game-changer by itself. For significant acceleration in growth, more large contracts will be necessary. Palantir’s partnership with Microsoft’s government cloud services may help secure faster deployments and additional deals. Moreover, the company is focused on growing its commercial customer base through boot camps, which demonstrate how AIP can be applied effectively across various industries.
