New York Mets fans were feeling a bit down after superstar Kyle Tucker turned down their massive offer to sign with the Dodgers instead. However the team did not wait long to make a major move of their own. On Friday morning the Mets agreed to a huge three year deal with star infielder Bo Bichette. This signing helps the team recover after losing several of their own key players to other clubs earlier this winter.
Bichette is known as one of the best contact hitters in baseball and was a huge part of the Blue Jays success last year. He had a scare with a knee injury late in the season but he looked perfectly healthy when he returned for the World Series. His new contract is worth one hundred and twenty-six million dollars and gives him a very high annual salary. He also has the right to leave the team after the first or second year if he wants to find an even bigger deal later on.
The Mets are planning to be very creative with how they use their players in the field this season. Even though Bichette has always played shortstop he is expected to move over to third base for New York. This is because the team already has Francisco Lindor at shortstop and recently traded for veteran Marcus Semien to play second base. By putting Bichette at third the Mets will have one of the most talented groups of infielders in the entire league.
This move shows that team owner Steve Cohen is still willing to spend whatever it takes to keep the fans happy and the team competitive. While the Mets still have some questions to answer about their outfield this signing adds a lot of power to their batting order. With Spring Training just around the corner the team is looking much stronger and ready to fight for a spot in the playoffs.
