The Other Bennet Sister is not returning for a confirmed Season 2.
The 10-episode BBC One / Bad Wolf period drama is a limited series that is based on Janice Hadlow’s 2020 Pride and Prejudice; it was released in March 2026, in two parts, on BritBox in the U.S. and Canada starting from 6th May 2026. The limited series focuses on Mary Bennet, who is mainly known as the middle sister of the Bennets in Jane Austen’s book, and her journey for independence, purpose, and love is told during the Regency period in England.
On the 2nd of May 2026, all narratives have reached a natural conclusion. Mary’s arc is woven from Meryton to the Lake District and from new friendships, through all aspects of personal and social development. The last episode scheduled to air on BBC programming in April 2026 indicated that this was a complete story; they had already scheduled another production to fill the available slot.
Sarah Quintrell, the lead screenwriter, indicated that she would be interested in working with more novels by Jane Austen or rethinking how his world has been viewed in the past, but at present, no announcement of renewal has been made. The production closely follows the size of the source material throughout all 10 half-hour episodes, giving little to no options for a direct extension, without extensive creative intervention. Even though many other versions of Jane Austen have been produced, nothing has yet been stated publicly regarding the future of this particular version.
Viewer and critical reception has been strong—praised for its charm, performances (including supporting turns by Richard E. Grant, Indira Varma, and others), and fresh take on Austen’s universe—with solid launch numbers for a new drama. This could encourage future spin-offs or similar projects, but Mary’s specific story seems complete for now.
Enjoy the full series on BBC iPlayer or BritBox—it’s a self-contained gem rather than an ongoing saga. No Season 2 updates are expected imminently.
