After four seasons of portraying Gabriel on *Emily in Paris*, Lucas Bravo recently suggested he may not return for season five, raising questions about the future of his role. In an interview with French publication *Le Figaro*, Bravo, 36, shared candid views about his on-screen romance with lead character Emily, played by Lily Collins. Bravo characterized their on-and-off love story as “archaic” and expressed a desire to pursue more challenging projects.
Disinterest in repeating storylines
Bravo noted that his role on the show feels restrictive, taking five months of filming for a story he finds less stimulating than other opportunities he’s exploring. As the series moves into season five, Bravo is assessing whether staying on a show with limited character development serves his evolving career. Currently starring in the French film Libre, he said the freedom he’s experiencing with other roles has given him a new perspective on his career trajectory.
As Emily in Paris unfolds, Bravo hopes for deeper storytelling that aligns more with what he views as meaningful. The actor referred to Gabriel’s love life as based on outdated tropes and expressed a desire for the character to have more “panache.”
What’s next for Emily in Paris?
Despite Bravo’s comments, Netflix announced a fifth season, picking up from season four’s cliffhanger where Emily begins a new romance with Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) after cooling off with Gabriel. However, Gabriel’s choice to keep fighting for Emily hinted at the possibility of rekindling their romance, leaving fans eager for closure. Series creator Darren Star also weighed in, suggesting that Gabriel might not be ready to let Emily go for good. He hinted at potential developments for the pair, though left it open-ended as to whether they’ll reunite.
