Dylan Dreyer filled in for Al Roker on the January 23 episode of Today and delivered the weather report for an incoming winter storm affecting much of the country. She explained that the storm would combine Pacific moisture, Gulf of Mexico moisture, and Arctic cold, stretching from New Mexico to New England.

Some viewers criticized Dreyer for calling it the “Gulf of Mexico,” as President Trump had officially renamed it the “Gulf of America” in January 2025. Comments under clips of her report included corrections like, “It’s Gulf of America!” Others, however, praised Dreyer, saying she was correct and appreciated her clarity.

Dreyer ended her report with a warning about the storm’s aftermath, noting that power outages would make conditions dangerously cold and difficult for crews to clear safely.

Dreyer joined Today as a Weekend weather anchor in 2012 and became a cohost for the third hour in 2019. She stepped down from Weekend Today in 2022 to focus on her family. She has three sons, Calvin, 9, Oliver, 6, and Rusty, 4, with her estranged husband, Brian Fichera. The couple announced their separation in July 2025, emphasizing they will continue co-parenting with love and respect.
