The Denver Broncos may have a different look at running back in 2026. J.K. Dobbins is set to hit free agency, and even though he played well in 2025, injuries remain a concern. That has followed him throughout his career.
Because of that, Denver may decide not to bring him back. If the team moves on, it would likely look for a veteran running back to pair with RJ Harvey rather than relying on youth alone.
One name already being linked to the Broncos is Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker. Pro Football Focus analyst Mason Cameron believes Denver is the best possible landing spot for Walker if he reaches free agency. Spotrac projects Walker to command a deal worth around $33 million.
Walker would represent a clear upgrade. Since entering the league in 2022, he owns one of the best rushing grades in football. Only Derrick Henry ranks higher. Walker is especially known for breaking tackles and creating extra yards on his own.
Another reason he fits Denver well is his versatility. Walker has thrived in both zone and gap running schemes, which makes him a natural match for Sean Payton’s offense. No matter how the play is designed, he has consistently produced at a high level.
Walker is coming off one of the strongest seasons of his career. He played all 17 games for the first time and showed improved durability. At just 25 years old, he is still entering his prime, which will make him one of the most sought-after backs on the market.
When he has the ball, Walker brings explosiveness. He can break off long runs and contribute as a pass catcher. That kind of big-play ability is something Denver’s offense has lacked at times.
Injuries are the main concern, but the workload in Denver would help. Walker would not need to carry the offense alone, with Harvey also expected to get steady touches. That shared responsibility could keep him healthier.
The Broncos are also in a strong financial position. They are projected to have about $28 million in cap space and do not have many major roster holes. That gives them flexibility to spend on a difference-making player.
If Denver wants to upgrade the running game in a meaningful way, signing Kenneth Walker would check every box.
