Fans of global OTT content have been anticipating the release of a new sports-driven romance (i.e., Blue Box Anime) about high schoolers Inomata Taiki & Kano Chinatsu, thus establishing one of the most sought-after streaming series in October 2023; however, it is expected to premiere soon. The second season of Blue Box brings more emotionally charged moments, rivalries in badminton (e.g., Inomata vs. Kondo) and basketball (e.g., Inomata vs. Kondo) between the main characters; as well as more evolving relationships during everyday life. Overall, the emotional ups and downs experienced by the characters throughout Season 1 will continue.
Blue Box Season 2: Release Details
The premiere of Season 2 is now confirmed for Fall of 2026 (Usually from late September to late December — most likely mid to late October, as the release for Season 1 was also mid to late October of 2024). This announcement was made at Jump Festa 26 in December 2025, where we saw a new teaser visual (“a blue visual” designed by Rei Kato) depicting visual elements associated with snow (or the season). Another “blue visual” was released in January 2026, depicting a Christmas Tree in an auditorium.
There has yet to be an official premiere date set, episode count, and a detailed broadcast schedule specifically for this upcoming season; However, we will likely see additional promotional material and updates regarding timing, including, but not limited to, Anime Japan in 2026.
Legal broadcast for Japan will be done via TBS, while the GLOBAL availability will be on NETFLIX (as they distributed Season 1 globally) and also potentially on Crunchyroll.
The entire Season 1 run consisted of two courses (25 total episodes) from October 2024 to March 2025; therefore, we should expect S2’s production to follow a similar structure, possibly with one (1) or two (2) courses as well.
Blue Box Season 2: Cast News
The main voice cast is returning:
– Shōya Chiba as Taiki Inomata (the badminton-loving protagonist).
– Reina Ueda as Chinatsu Kano (the basketball star and Taiki’s crush/roommate).
– Akari Kitō as Hina Chono (the rhythmic gymnast).
Supporting roles like Chiaki Kobayashi as Kyo Kasahara, Yuma Uchida as Kengo Haryu, and others from Season 1 are also expected to reprise. No new major cast additions have been announced yet.
Blue Box Season 2: Plot Details
Season 2 will be an emotional continuation of the coming-of-age adaptation of manga that centers on high school romance, badminton, and basketball.
The first season of the series followed the manga up to approximately chapter 80, or volume 9, concluding with Taiki and Chinatsu’s relationship developing into efforts to plan their first real date.
Season 2 will pick up shortly thereafter (from approximately chapter 81 on) and include additional story content that explores:
– As Taiki and Chinatsu develop and navigate their feelings, living situations, and athletic goals, their relationship continues to evolve.
– Taiki will continue to develop as a badminton player, as he participates in new tournaments (for example, first-year focused tournaments) and encounters challenges provided by many of his competitors (such as those from Sajikawa High School).
– Many of the supporting cast (in particular, Hina) will receive additional development, including story arcs for emotional growth, training for missions, and romantic development.
Many fans of the series, as well as various sources, have indicated that various arcs will feature many of the fan-favorite moments (such as significant milestones in the romantic relationships, festivals, and intense sports events). If season 2 is a two-cour presentation, it is possible that it will include all or a portion of the content from chapters 150–151 or beyond (for example, second summer festival story arcs).
As the manga is ongoing (as of the latest update, it has over 180+ chapters), there is no anticipation that the anime will deviate significantly from the future manga content. If you are interested in spoilers, they are available through the manga series starting with volume 10; however, please proceed with caution, as various major plot twists exist within the romance and sports elements.
