Young Thug has finally returned to music with his new album UY Scuti, released on September 26, 2025. This is his first major project since being released from prison last year after taking a plea deal. The album’s name, UY Scuti, is inspired by one of the largest known stars in the Milky Way, which seems to represent Thug’s effort to rise again and reclaim his place in the rap world. But beyond being a comeback project, the album has stirred attention for its deeply personal lyrics, which read like a heartfelt apology to his ex-girlfriend, Mariah the Scientist, and a few artists he fell out with during his legal troubles.

The Atlanta rapper, whose real name is Jeffery Lamar Williams II, used the songs to express regret and take responsibility for his past mistakes. In particular, the track Miss My Dogs stands out as a direct apology to Mariah following the controversy around his leaked jail recordings earlier this year. Those recordings captured Thug admitting to cheating on Mariah while he was behind bars. In the song, he tries to make amends through his words, saying lines like, “Baby, I’m sorry, one of my biggest fears is losin’ you to the internet,” and “I know you feel my pain.” The lyrics reveal a softer, more remorseful side of the rapper, one that fans haven’t often seen before.

What makes the apology even more surprising is that Mariah the Scientist appears on two songs from the album — Invest Into You and Dreams Rarely Do Come True. The collaboration suggests that the two might be on better terms now, or at least open to healing through music. In Invest Into You, their chemistry shines through, as Mariah sings about love and loyalty, saying, “I love you like I never loved before.” The track feels like a reflection of the affection and devotion that once existed between them, possibly during Thug’s time in jail.

But Dreams Rarely Do Come True has a heavier tone. The song begins with Mariah’s emotional vocals, hinting at feelings of betrayal and hurt. It’s raw and vulnerable, clearly addressing the emotional scars left by Thug’s actions. Halfway through, the beat changes, and Thug takes over, acknowledging his mistakes while trying to explain his side of the story. The back-and-forth emotion between the two gives the track a haunting, intimate energy that many fans are calling one of the most honest moments in Thug’s career.

Much of the album’s emotional depth comes from the drama that surrounded Thug during his time in jail. Between 2022 and 2024, a series of leaked audio clips from his calls inside Fulton County Jail caused huge controversy. In those recordings, Thug was heard making negative remarks about several artists, including Future, Kendrick Lamar, and Gunna. He also confessed to cheating on Mariah, which created a storm both online and within the hip-hop community. The leaks damaged many of his friendships and public relationships, making his new album sound like an open letter of apology to everyone he hurt.

Thug’s lyrics also mention his disappointment in Future, accusing him of not being supportive during his prison time, and he even claimed to have helped boost Gunna’s album streams. He didn’t spare Drake either, criticising how Drake treated Metro Boomin after the producer’s mother passed away. Through UY Scuti, Thug seems determined to clear the air, show remorse, and start over — both in his personal life and career.

Fans are calling UY Scuti a brave and emotional project, marking not just Thug’s musical comeback but also his attempt at rebuilding trust with the people who once stood by him.
