U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he has ordered two nuclear submarines to be deployed to regions near Russia following remarks made by Dmitry Medvedev, the former Russian president and current Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council. Trump made the decision public through a post on Truth Social, calling Medvedev’s comments “highly provocative.”
In his post, Trump stated that the submarines were being sent “just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that.” He did not detail the exact locations where the submarines would be stationed but said they were being positioned in “appropriate regions” as a precaution.
The President stressed the serious consequences of international rhetoric, saying, “Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences.” He concluded by expressing hope that this move would not escalate the situation further, adding, “I hope this will not be one of those instances.”
This announcement adds to the growing tension between the U.S. and Russia, with Trump’s move signalling a strong show of military readiness. There has been no immediate response from the Russian government regarding the submarine deployment.
