Amazon has announced the release of its new $79 Echo Spot alarm clock, boasting a revamped design and enhanced audio capabilities. The latest iteration of the Echo Spot, introduced on Monday, includes a display for checking the time, weather, and current music playback, alongside a front-facing speaker that promises clearer vocals and deeper bass.

This marks the first significant update to the Echo Spot since its initial release in 2017. The previous model, priced at $129, featured a semicircle design with a full-size display and an integrated camera.

Amazon has introduced the new Echo Spot at a reduced price for members of its $139-per-year Prime program, offering it for $44.99 through July 17, coinciding with the company’s Prime Day megasale.

The Echo Spot update comes amid expectations that Amazon will soon overhaul Alexa, the voice assistant powering its smart speakers. The company traditionally makes several announcements related to its Echo and Alexa product lines during its annual fall event, typically held in September.
