The S&P 500 also recorded strong gains. The benchmark index ended the session at 6,869.50 after rising 52.87 points. This marks an increase of 0.78 percent compared to the previous session.

Technology stocks played a major role in lifting the broader market.

Nasdaq climbs 1.29% to 22,807 as tech stocks lead market gains

The Nasdaq Composite posted the strongest performance among the major US indexes. The index closed at 22,807.48 after gaining 290.79 points during the trading session.

This represents a jump of 1.29 percent in a single day. The index opened at 22,620.89 and reached a high of 22,891.88. The lowest level of the session was recorded at 22,570.67. Trading activity was heavy with volume reaching 1.61 billion.

The strong rise in the Nasdaq reflects continued demand for technology and growth stocks in the US market.

Dow Jones rises 238 points to 48,739 while S&P 500 reaches 6,869

The Dow Jones Industrial Average also ended the day with moderate gains. The index finished at 48,739.41 after climbing 238.14 points. That represents a daily increase of 0.49 percent.

The index moved within a wide trading range. The session high reached 48,854.05 while the lowest level stood at 48,354.37. Total trading volume for the Dow Jones was around 511.38 million.

The S&P 500 recorded another strong session. The index closed at 6,869.50 after gaining 52.87 points. The benchmark opened at 6,831.69 and touched a high of 6,885.94 during the day.

Small cap stocks also joined the rally. The Russell 2000 index closed at 2,636.01 with a gain of 27.65 points. That equals a rise of 1.06 percent.

VIX rises 3.87% to 22 as market volatility increases

Despite the strong performance in equities the volatility index also moved higher. The VIX closed at 22.00 after rising 0.82 points during the session.

This represents an increase of 3.87 percent. The index opened at 22.11 and reached a high of 22.31. The lowest level of the session was recorded at 20.55.

The rise in the VIX suggests that investors are still cautious even as stock markets continue to push higher.
