On Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov declared that the United States was no longer serious about implementing its own proposal to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, which he said had been offered to Moscow during high level talks in Anchorage, Alaska, in August 2025.

In an interview with the BRICS TV channel Lavrov reasoned that although he said that there has been productive dialogue at the presidential level, Washington still maintains a strategy of containment and pressure against Russia. This method will sabotage any hope of enforcing any of the agreements that were addressed at Anchorage conference according to the Russian foreign minister.

In addition to the fact that they allegedly offered something in relation to Ukraine and we were prepared, and now they are not prepared, Lavrov also does not see any positive perspectives in the sphere of the economy.

As proof of what he termed as the hypocritical actions by Washington, Lavrov used the example of the issue of imposition of new US sanctions on major Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil. He claimed the actions were made soon after negotiations which Moscow deemed productive and alleged that the United States was tightening its economic screws on Russia.

Another assertion that was made by the foreign minister is that Washington is practically at war with Russian-linked tankers in high seas. According to him, this policy is among the greater attempts to limit energy exports of Russia and decrease the impact of this country on the economy of other countries.

The United States is also putting pressure on nations that have economic relations with Russia such as India, to avoid buying Russian energy as affirmed by Lavrov. He compared this to the pressure by US on European states in the past which compelled Europe to forgo Russian sources of energy and instead purchase what he termed as exorbitantly priced American liquefied natural gas.

Lavrov said, “Europe has traditionally been prohibited to purchase Russian energy. In other words, Americans have stated their intention of economic supremacy.

Lavrov accused America of actively seeking to take over global energy paths and markets in ways that do not meet the approval of Russia. To this, he responded that Moscow was trying to protect its interests through the development of alternative payment system and increasing the number of partners outside the West.

Even the foreign minister added that Washington is aiming to meddle into the Russia trade relations with key partners, investment relations and the military-technical cooperation. He specifically cited India and other BRICS nations as the countries under the pressure of the US because of their relationship with Moscow.

Russia Lavrov said that they are attempting to regulate our trade, investment collaboration and military-technical connections with the largest strategic partners of Russia.

Although he criticized, Lavrov insisted that Russia is open to cooperation with the United States. But he alleged that Washington is establishing artificial borders that make it difficult to engage with the two nations in meaningful ways.

Looking to the West, Lavrov referred to NATO, the European Union, and the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) as being outdated. He claimed that these organizations were initially aimed at pursuing the interests of Western Europe and acted on the premise that they could prescribe to the rest of the continent.

Meanwhile, Lavrov claimed that Russia does not aim at destroying the world financial organizations like the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, or the World Trade Organization. Rather, he proposed that the countries in BRICS block should be given voting power and representation in accordance with their real role of representation in the world economy, trades, and logistics.

Lavrov also indicated that BRICS has the potential to positively influence the development strategy on the global level, noting that the group represents the framework of integration processes in various regions.

The foreign minister on security issues stressed that Russia was committed to its own security considering what he termed as an ever-growing hostile speech in Europe. He advised that Moscow would not permit weapons to be used on Ukrainian soil that it perceives to be a risk to its interests in terms of security.

Lavrov concluded by saying that BRICS is not aimed at challenging the United States in face to face confrontation but it is a counter to what he called the efforts by Washington to exert unilateral dominance over the world affairs and insist on confessions by other countries.
