Toyota Thailand Open 2021: Indian Shuttler B Sai Praneeth tests COVID-19 positive, ruled out of the tournament

Thailand Open 2021: Indian badminton player B. Sai Praneeth was tested COVID positive on Monday. Sai has been ruled out of the tournament as per protocols. “Badminton World Federation (BWF)  confirmed India player B.Sai Praneeth has been tested positive for COVID-19 and has been withdrawn from the TOYOTA Thailand Open,” BWF said on Tuesday night.

 Kidambi Srikanth an ace shuttler, room partner of B.Sai was also forced to withdraw as per the protocols laid by BWF.  “In line with BWF protocols, Kidambi has been withdrawn from the TOYOTA Thailand Open and is in strict self-quarantine,” Badminton World Federation (BWF) said.

Every other Indian player has cleared the mandatory round of PCR testing returning negative and hence allowed to compete further in the tournament. Saina Nehwal and HS Prannoy had returned positive for COVID-19 results. When they went for PCR testing last week. However, they were later cleared to compete in the  Thailand Open after they tested negative in the latest round of testing.
