Wimbledon 2021: Defending champion Novak Djokovic beats Kevin Anderson to advance to the third round

Novak Djokovic defeated Kevin Anderson 6-3 6-3 6-3, in straight sets at the Wimbledon, to reach the third round of the tournament. He will next play Italian Andreas Seppi or America’s Denis Kudla in the next round.

The Australian Open and French Open champion of the year is behind his sixth Wimbledon title and has been immensely incredible in form this season as he targets to draw level towards his third Slam of the year to equal with Swiss star Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal with 20 Grand Slam singles titles.

Former world number five Anderson and world number one Djokovic, have met thrice on the grass at Wimbledon where their last meeting ended with Serb defeating the South-African in the year 2018. Both the pair have 12 professional meetings.

The Serbian was on the deck several times as he fell to the ground but fortunately, he avoided injury at the slippery surface on Centre Court and succeeded in overcoming Anderson of South Africa. He received a standing ovation from the crowd of the court for his another impressive performance. The commentator John McEnroe, on BBC, described the Serb as the most dangerous player in the draw and rated his performance as “out of this world.”

Djokovic has only lost three of his 32 matches this season.
