US Open: Murray and Soares zoom past Koepfer and Ruusuvuori to reach quarterfinals in the doubles

Britain’s Jaime Murray and his doubles partner Brazilian partner Bruno Soares zoomed past Dominik Koepfer and Emil Ruusuvuori in the men’s doubles fourth round to reach Murray’s seventh successive US Open quarter-final in the doubles category.

Murray, who is former world no.1 Andy Murray’s brother, has won seven Grand Slams in the doubles category, a Davis Cup Champion and also has been the world no.1 in the doubles ranking. Soares also can be considered a doubles specialist as he has won three Grand Slams which does consist of being a two time US Open doubles Champion including last year when he won it with Croatian tennis player Mate Pavić but this time he is partnering with Murray again to get the prize.

The 2016 US Open doubles champions were joined by fellow Briton Joe Salisbury and the American Rajeev Ram who beat the Indian Croatian team of Rohan Bopanna and Ivan Dodig in a tight encounter. The final score was 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 7-6 (7-3) in the favour of the Britons American team who will now face Australian duo Matt Ebden and Max Purcell in the quarter-finals. Murray and Soares will have a match against the second-seeded Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos who defeated the British-Pakistani team of Jonny O’Mara and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi today.

Murray had reached the quarter-final stage last year and also in 2019 along with British compatriot Neal Skupski but has since then reformed his partnership with the Brazilian Bruno Soares with whom he won 2 grand slams in the year 2016.
