The legendary tennis player Roger Federer has declared that the 2022 Laver Cup will be his final competition. Federer promised to attend the 2023 Laver Cup in Vancouver, even if it’s not as an player, in his farewell speech.
Unfortunately for the 20-time Grand Slam champion, Team Europe’s prominent duo of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer lost to Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock of Team World. The two, collectively referred to as “Fedal,” were thrashed 6-4, 6(2)-7, 9-11 in front of a raucous crowd at London’s O2 Arena.
Federer’s family, teammates, and friends sobbed in celebration of his fortunate career as the match came to a close. The crowd applauded and gave Federer a standing ovation as he made one final speech. Federer was visibly moved. The 41-year-old confirmed that he will be in Vancouver for the Laver Cup next year despite not being a currently active player, giving a hint as to his potential comeback. I’m looking forward to next year and supporting both teams, of course from different positions,” said the Swiss legend during the Laver Cup 2022 speech.
