Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi hint towards something special on their 22nd anniversary of Wimbledon victory

Indian tennis greats Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi indicated something special on account of their 22nd anniversary of the Wimbledon victory in the men’s doubles classification through a Twitter conversation on Sunday.

Bhupathi and Paes became the first Indian pair who won at the Wimbledon tournament on this very day of the year 1999. They had also gained a victory over French Open in the same year. It was the first time to reach such a level when the legendary duo reached the finals of all four Grand Slams in 1999 and achieved the position of becoming the first doubles team to do so in the Open Era since 1952.

“22 years ago today, we became the first Indians to win Wimbledon. As two young boys all, we dreamt of was making our country proud,” wrote Paes via Twitter on Sunday about the accomplishment mentioning Bhupathi.

Minutes after the tweet, Bhupathi replied quoting: “Hmmm. That was special!! Do you think it’s time to write another chapter?”

Eight doubles and ten mixed doubles Grand Slam titles winner Paes replied quickly and said: “I am always game, What’s the plan?”

In the last conversational thread on Twitter, Grand Slam winner Bhupathi tweeted that he will get back to Paes and wished him for the 22nd anniversary of the Wimbledon victory saying: “Let me get back to you!! In the meantime Happy 22nd anniversary.”

The celebrated set of Paes and Bhupathi gave memorably best season in 1999 when they reached the finals of all four Grand Slams by forming a redoubtable pair when they were not retired.
