During the Miami Open, Carlos Alcaraz defeated Taylor Fritz to reach the semifinals

Alcaraz defeated Fritz by 6-4, 6-2 in a comfortable victory.

The 2023 Miami Open quarterfinals saw Alcaraz defeat Fritz by 6-4, 6-2 in a comfortable victory. To become the youngest winner of the Sunshine Double, the 19-year-old Spaniard still needs to win two more matches.

Following his first encounter against the current world number one for the first time on Thursday, Taylor Fritz believes Carlos Alcaraz’s game is more dangerous than the Big 3 of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic after taking on the Spaniard for the first time. He stated he had more breathing room on the court than Alcaraz when facing the Big Three.

I felt like I had more breathing room against those guys – Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic – than in this match,” Taylor Fritz said in a press conference after the quarterfinal against Alcaraz.”

He also highlighted the challenge of overcoming Djokovic, who he believes has the potential to gradually overwhelm opponents with his consistency over time and his skill. The Serbian still felt he had more chances to impact his opponent than Alcaraz, even though he was ranked lower than him.

“I think it’s different game styles. Novak will have these long rallies, but it will take him a while to get you out of position and overwhelm me. I still feel like I can hang in these rallies for long and get more chances to attack.”

The semifinal match will be played between Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner on Friday. In this match, Alcaraz is looking to defend his title, which he won back in the semifinals at Indian Wells.
