Daniil Medvedev talks about criticism for being allowed to play

Because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Medvedev faced criticism over being allowed to play.

The 26 years old Russian tennis Player, Daniil Medvedev for the first time took over the top position in his career from Novak Djokovic last week. But that didn’t last for too long as on Monday Medvedev lost to Gael Monfils in the third round. which will allow Djokovic to reclaim the ranking of number 1 in the coming week. Though Djokovic was unable to play in the BNP Paribas Open due to the vaccination requirements he still will ascend.

Medvedev did make his journey to California as well as fully vaccinated. Although some of his peers believe due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Medvedev also should not have been allowed to participate at the Indian Wells.

As it is seen that So many Russian athletes have been banned from some individual events as well as from most international team competitions which include the World Cup competition at Biathlon and  Skiing as well the recent Winter Paralympics at Beijing.

At Indian Wells, Marta Kostyuk, a rising star from Ukraine said that she thinks Medvedev the Russian tennis player shouldn’t be allowed to compete. But after long debate, the governing bodies of tennis have decided to preserve players, right to compete neutrally as individuals. While banning Belarus and Russia, its ally from the team events such as the Billie Jean King Cup and Davis Cup.

Continuing to it, Medvedev responded to Marta Kostyuk’s call, “I follow the rules, it’s definitely not for me to decide. can’t do anything else the rule is that we can play under our neutral flag, right now,” reported New York Times.
