Craig Tiley says that the players will be unwilling to get quarantine again for the Australian Open

The Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley said that the players won’t accept strict quarantine in the hotel for two weeks ahead of next year’s Grand Slam. Although, he does not doubt that the tournament will go ahead as scheduled. The director said that the tennis players are already going through strict quarantine in other countries and undergoing strict quarantine before next January’s Australian Open will be mentally tiring for them.

Craig told Melbourne’s 3AW radio on Wednesday, “Whether or not the playing group accepts that remains to be seen. The players are not going to be open with it, simply because that’s not what they’re currently doing around the world. If the conditions are similar to today, we may not be able to convince the players to accept them.”

The Victoria Sports Minister Martin Pakula said on Tuesday that the country’s vaccine would be accelerated to the extent that restrictions would not impact the Grand Slam. He told reporters, “I’m very confident that the Australian Open will proceed.”

The director Craig Tiley also confirmed that the professional tours had accepted their 2022 schedules until the end of September to allow Australian Open organisers to get an indication from the government of what the entry requirements might be in January.
