Carlos Alcaraz secured a stunning victory over Novak Djokovic to retain his Wimbledon title on Sunday. The Spanish tennis star won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (4), equalling the Open Era record for the most Grand Slam wins.
In a highly anticipated rematch of the Wimbledon 2023 final, Alcaraz faced Djokovic just five weeks after undergoing surgery on his right knee. The World No.2 Djokovic renewed his rivalry with the defending champion in what turned out to be an intense and thrilling match.
The match began with a 14-minute opening game featuring seven deuces and five break points, setting the stage for an epic showdown on Centre Court. Alcaraz took control early, winning the first set 6-2 after forcing Djokovic to the net multiple times.
Alcaraz continued his dominance in the second set, again winning 6-2. Although Djokovic mounted a fierce fightback in the third set, Alcaraz held his ground and won the tie-break to clinch his fourth Grand Slam title.
This victory marks Alcaraz’s successful title defense at Wimbledon and places him in elite company alongside Roger Federer as the second player in the professional era to win his first four major finals. Alcaraz also joins the ranks of Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg, Rafael Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic as the sixth men’s player since 1968 to win both the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year.
