The French and Croatian pair of Kristina Mladenovic and Ivan Doig locked horns with the Australian duo of Jaimee Fourlis and Jason Kuber in the mixed double finals of the Australian Open and claimed the title on Friday at Melbourne Park winning the match (6-3,6-4).
Playing under a closed Roof in Rod Laver Arena, Kristina, and Ivan started the match with confidence after getting hold of a breakpoint at 4-3 in the first set and sealing the set after brilliant services from the French International.
The Australian Wildcard duo was a bit shaken in the second set as the net play from Ivan Doig was turning out to be too good for Jaimee Fourlis who was on serve. As the set progressed the Australian duo was coming into the match as they equalized 2-2 after forcing Doig into an error but the Momentum was back again with Mladenovic and Doig as they got hold of another breakpoint and then in the next game the title was sealed by the 5th seeded duo which was their maiden Grand Slam together.
“We had a couple of times chatted and had talked about playing the mixed together and What a way to end our first time playing together”. Said Kristina Mladenovic to Reuters after the match as reported by TOI.
The women’s singles final will be played between Ashleigh Barty vs Danielle Collins on Saturday at Rod Laver Arena.
