The American Danielle Collins advances into the last four of the Australian Open on Wednesday to match her previous best from 2019 and knocked out veteran Alize Cornet’s denying her first chance to advance into a semifinal of a Grand Slam.
Collins who is 27th seed had to fight very hard in the first set to win it 7-5 which was followed by a 6-1 win in the second set, if we talk about the whole match physically it was difficult for both the players as the scorching heat at Rod Laver Arena was very trying.
The American will need to face Swiatek (seventh seed )who is Polish or Kaia Kanepi who is from Estonia in the semifinals to book her place in the final of the Australian Open.
The defeat in the quarterfinals for Cornet would be hard to swallow as it was her first chance to advance into a Grand Slam semifinal after 17 years of trying but could not leap ahead.
It was incredible especially after the health issues the American has faced and to make a comeback and compete at this level the way she has and making the semifinals of the Australian Open is an achievement. She said after the quarter-finals ended playing with the opponents which she had to face in the previous two to three rounds were extremely good and great athletes.
If the American reaches the final it will take her rank to the top 10 which will be her personal best raking since she made the debut in 2011.
