The French Open Champion, Barbora Krejčíková said that it was amazing today because Azarenka is the champion here. She likes the court and is very experienced on this court.

“I admire her because she’s such a good player and I m extremely happy that I won today. It was a dream to play in a court like this”, Barbora Krejčíková said to AFP.

Barbora has braced herself in 2021 when she won her first grand slam title at Roland Garros, increasing her rankings. But she could never make it past the second round in her prior two attempts in Australia.

Veteran Victoria Azarenka was struggling with her neck issue and called for a medical timeout while a break and 0-1 down in the second set. She said “it feels right” but kept on going only to call a physio again at 1-2.

Her injury was clearly affecting her serving and she double-faulted to hand Barbora Krejčíková another break and then it was inescapable.

Barbora Krejčíková’s win has increased her chances of becoming the world’s no.1 towards the end of the tournament but is yet to earn the title.
