Manchester City through FA Cup semi-finals, defeats Southampton 4-1

City took advantage of deflated Saints, who had played with so much energy and deserved so much credit for the match only to lose it at 4-1.

Manchester City has once again proven their class in their win against Southampton by winning 4-1 against the English Club. Foden, who came out as a substitute scored a goal of beauty at the 75th minute with his left foot, Sterling and Mahrez showed up on the scoresheet with Kevin De Bruyne striking a penalty at the 62nd minute. Even though City is known for possessing the ball throughout games, Southampton had impressive tries to break the system.

The Saints however tried their best to win the ball but their ill-timed decisions against City was the reason for their downfall along with a poor possession of 35% and 13 shots on target when City had 65% and 19 respectively. The reckless challenge on Jesus was the focal point of turning the odds of the match in City’s favour. The challenge sought City a penalty and gave them an edge over the Saints in bringing the game to their toes. Mahrez stole the last minutes of the game to end the match with a semi-final trip to Wembley.

Southampton however is at crossroads this season as their FA Cup journey comes to an end and their Premier League position is not of a favourable one. Manchester City will face the winners of Liverpool and Nottingham Forrest taking place today in the quarter-finals round whereas Chelsea will face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-finals. The city is now in contention for both FA Cup and Premier League titles as Pep Guardiola unleashes his wizardry through his squad through quality and power.
