Louis van Gaal not too keen on Qatar hosting 2022 World Cup

Van Gaal calls out on FIFA’s move to hold World Cup qualifiers as money minded and rebels to support the human rights violations in the country while playing in Qatar.

Netherlands Coach, Louis van Gaal, snaps at FIFA’s decision to host the 2022 men’s World Cup at Qatar, citing the commercial ideas behind such a decision. He called the decision ‘ridiculous’ and ‘for money’ as the dutchman could not fathom any other possible reason for the scheduling of an event of such importance at the Arabian state.

“It’s ridiculous that we’re going to play in a country to… develop football…That is (expletive)… It’s about money, commercial interests. That’s what matters to FIFA”, he said in a press conference before home friendlies against Denmark on Saturday and Germany next Tuesday.

The 70-year-old coach has also had experience coaching former Manchester United and Barcelona squads and has always kept his distance from such partnerships and have been devoid of the FIFA commission as he has always voiced out his opinions regarding the economical interests of the organisation. He is part of the Dutch Football Association and is among few, who have appealed against the decision to play in the Arabian country as they monitor the human rights issues taking place with the migrant workers every month. He has also admitted that the KNVB (the Dutch association)  was never in favour of the World Cup being held in Qatar as the Dutch players along with German and Norwegian players had protested against the decision by wearing shirts before the World Cup qualifiers raising human rights concerns.
