Mainz 05 have shocked their opponents RB Leipzig after beating them 1-0 in their first Bundesliga game of the season. Many important players of Mainz 05 were ruled out for COVID-19 reasons.
RB Leipzig, from the starting whistle, was dominating this game and they didn’t let RB Leipzig create too many chances. They kept on attacking in the early part of the game and got the result at the 13th minute when Mainz captain Moussa Niakhate opened the scoring. RB Leipzig had their new manager on the touchline, Jesse Marsch after Julian Nagelsman left the job this summer and joined Bayern Munich.
The first game was not so good for the new manager as their player didn’t manage to score a goal despite having 72% of the possession on the ball. However, RB Leipzig was ahead of Mainz 05 in all the statistics except the goal, which matters the most. Thus, this goal from Mainz 05 proved to be decisive and gave them 3 points in their first game.
RB Leipzig tried to put some pressure on Mainz 05 at the end. It seemed like they are going to score the equaliser in the latter stages but wasn’t successful in finding the net and ended up on the losing side. Andre Silva, the Portuguese Striker also made his debut in this match for RB Leipzig after he joined the club in the summer from Eintracht Frankfurt for a fee of €23 million.
