Yuzvendra Chahal and K Gowtham tests positive for COVID-19

Yuzvendra Chahal and K Gowtham also test positive for the COVID-19 virus in Sri Lanka three days after Krunal Pandya was confirmed of being affected by the same.

India’s COVID-19 list has been expanded with two more players from the team after spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and K Gowtham got positive for the coronavirus three days after Krunal Pandya was confirmed as being affected by it. The duo was among the eight players who were in close contact with Krunal and were already away from the rest of the team after he was examined positive.

Talking to ANI, references in the know of developments ascertained that the two have sampled positive for the viruses. “Unfortunately, they have tested positive. They were close contacts of Krunal and were already away from the rest of the squad in the team hotel,” said the source.

Krunal Pandya had tested positive for the virus on Tuesday after which, eight Indian players including Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Deepak Chahar, Manish Pandey, Ishan Kishan and K Gowtham were specified as the close connection with the player because of which, they all were compelled to not take part in the final two T20 International games. They were forced to stay away from the rest of the team.

Indian team played their second and third T20I without their nine of the key players because of which India’s tour of Sri Lanka was affected. India lost the series by 2-1.

Due to coronavirus, the ODI series was temporarily suspended for 5 days after the opponents caught the virus.
