Tokyo Paralympics: Paddler Sonalben Manubhai Patel loses to China’s Qian Li in the Group D opener

Tokyo Paralympics games have begun on Tuesday. Indian Paddler Sonalben Patel has lost her opening game in the group stage against China’s Qian Li by 2-3.

The Indian paddler Sonalben Patel participated in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics games. Sonal entered into the Table Tennis Competition at the games where he had to face the loss against China’s table tennis player, Qian Li. The match was so close as the final score of the game was 3-2 with the Chinese table tennis player just winning the game. It is the debut Paralympics for the Indian paddler.

Sonalben Patel lost in her debut Paralympics games but showed a great fighting spirit. She lost in the Group D opener match while playing in the Individual C3 event. The number 4 in the World ranking Qian Li has defeated the Indian debutant in five sets. The four-time gold medalist and one-time silver medalist, Qian Li has a commendable record in the Paralympic games.

Only two Indian women athlete has participated in the table tennis competition, Sonalben Manubhai Patel from Gujrat and Bhavana Hasmukhbhai Patel from the same state in this Tokyo Paralympic games. Bhavana has many records of her name. She won several gold and silver medals in many national and international competitions. However, she has also lost in her opening game against Zhou Ying of China by 0-3.

Sonalben Patel still has a chance to record her first victory in her debut Paralympic games on Thursday as she will be against Lee Mi-gyu of South Korea in the group stage game.
