Tokyo Paralympics: Indian pair Rakesh Kumar and Jyoti Baliyan enters into quarterfinals in compound mixed archery

The Indian archers Rakesh Kumar and Jyoti Baliyan have performed very well in the round of 16 games and reached the quarter-final in the compound mixed archery event.

Rajesh Kumar and Jyoti Baliyan are currently playing in the Compound Mixed Team Open in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. The Indian pair has stormed into the quarterfinals after defeating Thailand’s Praphaporn and Anon in the round of 16 games. They progressed to the quarters in the compound mixed archery event by defeating Thailand’s pair by 147-141.

It was a close victory for the Indian archery tag team. Rakesh and Jyoti did a very great job in this match as in the first two sets Thailand’s pair were leading but they made a strong comeback in the third set and had a one-point advantage after the set. The fourth set was clinically won by the Indian duo Rakesh and Jyoti. They shot 9, 9, 10, 10 and the Thai pair couldn’t take the lead as they shot 8, 8, 8, and 9. The total score of the Indian pair is 1370 after this round of 16 games. The Indian pair, Rakesh and Jyoti will now be seen playing against Turkey Pair in the quarter-final match on Sunday, 29 August at 2:40 pm (IST).

Rakesh Kumar is also competing in the Individual Compound Open event in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games. He defeated Hongkong’s Ngai Ka Chuen in the round of 32 games which was played on Saturday. Now he has progressed in the round of 16 of the competition, where he is scheduled to play against Slovakia’s Marian Marecak on 31st August. Jyoti Baliyan was also competing in the women’s Individual Compound Open but did not advance after she Lost to Ireland’s Leonard in the round of 32 matches by 137-141.
