Tokyo Paralympics: Indian Canoe athlete Prachi Yadav finishes 8th in the Women’s VL2 Canoe sprint event

Indian para canoe athlete Prachi Yadav couldn’t finish with a medal in the Women’s VL2 Canoe Sprint final event in the Tokyo Paralympic Games 2020.

Prachi Yadav has finished last i.e on 8th position in the final event of the 200m  Women’s VL2 Canoe Sprint. After a great display of performance in the Heat 1 qualifications and Semifinals round, it was a big loss for the Indian. Prachi Yadav was the only Indian Para-athlete who was participating in the Canoe sprint event in this 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. She also became India’s first Para canoe athlete to compete in this event at Paralympic games.

Prachi Yadav was at rank 4 in the Heat 1 round in which she took 1 minute and 11 seconds to complete the 200m sprint. She qualifies for the Semifinals after this victory. Prachi had her semifinals on Friday morning where she did a great job by completing the sprint in just 1:07.397 and also finishing in the 3rd position above many participants who have represented their country in the same event even before.

After finishing in the top 3, a medal was looking possible for the Indian Para Canoe athlete in her debut Women’s VL2 Canoe sprint event at Paralympics. But it didn’t go as planned by the Indian athlete. Prachi finished the final 200m sprint event at almost the same time as the semifinals match. She completed the final race in 1 minute 7.329 seconds but this time her position was 8th. However, it was a great performance from the Indian para-athlete as it was her debut in the Canoe event at Paralympic Games, and reaching the finals in her first attempt was not a small thing for the Indian.
