Tokyo Paralympics: Gold medalist shooter, Avani Lekhara will be the flag-bearer for India in the closing ceremony

Avani Lekhara has been named as a flag-bearer for India in the closing ceremony of the Tokyo Paralympic Games 2020. Avani has won gold as well as silver in this year’s Paralympics shooting event.

The First Indian woman to win two medals at the Paralympic games, Avani Lekhara is to be India’s flag-bearer for the closing ceremony of the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games. The Indian woman has brought laurels to her country by such a commendable performance in the shooting event in this year’s Paralympic Games.

The 19-year-old Paralympian also became the Indian first gold medalist in the 2020 Paralympics. Officials of the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) impressed with Avani have now decided to give her the responsibility to be India’s flag-bearer for the closing ceremony.

Avani Lekhara who won two medals this year can add another medal to her tally as she is also competing in the Mixed 50m Rifle Prone SH1 event. The event is going to take place on Sunday morning, 5th September. The Indian para-shooter already won a gold medal and became the first to do it in this year’s Paralympic Games in the Women’s 10m air Rifle Standing SH1. She also won a bronze medal in the Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions SH1 event which was held on Friday.

“Avani will be the flag bearer and there will be 11 participants from the Indian contingent during the closing ceremony,” an official of the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) said to PTI. The closing ceremony is on 5th September, Sunday which will be the last day of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
