
Shooter Swapnil Kusale, who finished third in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions final at the National Shooting Center in Châteauroux on Thursday, earned India’s third medal in the shooting category at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
After scoring 156.8 in the prone and 153.3 in the kneeling rounds, the 28-year-old finished third with a standing score of 195. Swapnil finished 7th in the qualifying round with a total of 590 points, including 38 inner 10s (Xs) from three spots. Swapnil is the first shooter from India to win an Olympic medal in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event.
The 50-meter rifle Positions final consists of three rounds of 15 shots each. The elimination round takes place after 15 shots in kneeling, prone and standing positions.
India has won three medals in shooting. Manu Bhaker became the first Indian shooter to earn an Olympic medal on Monday when she won bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event. On Tuesday, Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh created history again as they won bronze in the mixed team 10m pistol event. She became the first Indian athlete to win two medals in the same Olympic edition after independence.
