The game between the Bulls and Suns today was a matchup between 2 top-seeded teams in the NBA. The Suns took the W (127-124) and retained their spot on the top of the west while the Bulls slid down to 3rd place in the east.

The game got close in the 4th quarter with the Bulls bringing it to within 5 in the last minute, but it was too little too late as the buzzer went off with the last layup from the bulls. DeRozan and Lavine had monster games scoring 38 and 32 for the bulls but Phoenix had 38 from Booker and 5 other players in double digits along with 11 assists from CP3, keeping everyone involved offensively. The game showed that the bulls need some more time together before becoming a top 5 team in the league and are missing Caruso and Lonzo from the lineup. It is still impressive that despite the injuries they have the bulls put up a good fight against the best team in the league right now.

The Suns have established themselves as one of the best if not the best team in the NBA. They lead the western conference with a 43-10 record. The only teams in contention for the 1 seed in the west are the Golden State Warriors and the ascending Grizzlies team. On the other hand, the East is up for grabs with 6 teams in contention for the top seed. The top 5 teams are just within 2 games of the 1st seed. With the loss against the Suns, the Bulls have fallen to the 3 seed and Miami has reclaimed the top seed in the east once again. The Bucks that have been the 6 seed for a while have also risen to the 2 seed. The Cavaliers have been a big surprise this season and have put themselves in contention for the top 6 spots along with the 76ers and the Raptors. Brooklyn has been in a slump recently with the loss of Kevin Durant and James Harden. Having a part-time Kyrie has also not helped the team and has led to them losing 8 straight games. Once their 2 superstars return Brooklyn will be in the running once again.

The season started with the Nets and Bucks being favourites in the east and the Warriors, Lakers and Suns being favourites in the west. Right now the way some of these teams have improved and put themselves in contention has made this NBA season extremely interesting. It is not just the rise of teams but also the fall of others that have been pretty surprising. No one would have guessed that the nets would fall to the 7 seed and the Lakers would be the 9 seed! These were the 2 teams that were supposed to be in the NBA finals. The ending to this season will be historic and it is only going to begin when the 1 seeds are determined. The west is a little less dramatic with Phoenix and golden state being the major contenders for the 1 seed. But in the east, it is a battle royale and we will only know who will stand on top at the end.
