National Sports Awards delayed considering the performance of Tokyo-bound Paralympic athletes of India

The National Sports Award which is bound to happen on the 29th of august every year has been postponed for the inclusion of India Paralympians.

The 29th of August is a date which is set to honour the achievements of sports stars of India has been pushed by the government as they have set the selection panel and are willing to include the performances of the Para athletes which are going to represent India. The Paralympics will take place from 24th August to 5th Sept.

Anurag Thakur the sports minister of India said that the Selection panel for the acknowledgement of achievements of Indian athletes have been formed and they are willing to include the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 before going ahead with the selection process.

The national sports award committee has been formed for this year but the Paralympics are yet to be held so we want to add winners from the Paralympics also. I hope and wish they will perform well,” Thakur said as per PTI.

This day marks the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyanchand and this Award ceremony is organised every year to pay respect to the achievements and rewards that he grabbed for his country. The awards like Khel Ratna Award, Arjuna Award, Dronacharya Award are given away by the Country’s president. Recently the name of the highest award in Sports was changed from Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award to Major Dhyanchand Sports Award. The previous reward which is given along with the Khel Ratna award has been increased from Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. Also, the other awards like Dronacharya Lifetime Award and Arjuna Award have increased to Rs 15 lakh instead of Rs 5 lakh. Dhyanchand Awardees will also enhance to Rs 10 lakh instead of Rs 5 lakh.
