Fernando Alonso has expressed caution about the Sprint format ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix, stating that it may not be ideal for his Aston Martin team.
The Sprint format, which reduces the number of Free Practice sessions, leaves less time for Alonso and his teammate Lance Stroll to optimize their car’s performance in a non-competitive setting.
Alonso mentioned the need for more time to understand the recent upgrades to their car and suggested that the Sprint weekend might not provide sufficient opportunity for that.
However, he acknowledged the unique layout of the Red Bull Ring, which could potentially benefit teams like Ferrari with its long straight and short corners.
Despite his concerns, Alonso believes that the circuit’s characteristics might offer a chance for Aston Martin to demonstrate improved pace.
