Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola made a strong gesture after full-time, urging supporters to applaud Bernardo Silva despite the midfielder not getting on the scoresheet against Arsenal.

City secured a 2-1 win in a crucial Premier League clash, but much of the focus after the game shifted to Bernardo’s all-round performance. Guardiola walked towards the stands at the final whistle and signalled to fans to recognise the Portuguese midfielder’s effort.

Bernardo delivered a complete display across the pitch. He recorded 76 touches and played 16 passes in the final third, showing his influence in attack. At the same time, he contributed defensively with five duels won, four recoveries of possession, and three tackles.

The midfielder also made four touches inside the opposition box and created one chance, underlining his attacking presence. His work rate remained consistent throughout the game, covering ground and linking play between midfield and attack.

Despite not scoring, Bernardo’s impact did not go unnoticed within the squad. Erling Haaland had earlier praised him after the match, even suggesting he deserved the Man of the Match award.

Guardiola’s public gesture added further weight to that view. The City manager has often highlighted the importance of players who contribute beyond goals and assists, and Bernardo’s performance fit that profile.
