Real Madrid have officially submitted evidence to UEFA as part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged racist abuse directed at Vinícius Júnior during their UEFA Champions League playoff first-leg match against Benfica.
In a formal club statement, Real Madrid confirmed they are actively cooperating with UEFA’s inquiry following what they described as “unacceptable episodes of racism” experienced by their star winger during the match in Lisbon. The incident occurred in the second half of Madrid’s 1-0 victory, when Vinícius Jr confronted Benfica player Gianluca Prestiani and immediately reported the matter to match officials.
“Real Madrid have now actively collaborated with the investigation opened by UEFA after the unacceptable episodes of racism experienced during that match,” the club said. The Spanish giants also expressed gratitude for the widespread support Vinícius Jr has received from across the football world, acknowledging the “unanimous endorsement, support and affection” shown toward the Brazilian forward.
