Australia has added another trophy to their impressive collection as they emerged victorious in the World Test Championship. The final match at the Oval concluded with a comprehensive win for the Australian team. While Australia was the favored side to win, India still held a glimmer of hope at the start of the final day.
The pitch didn’t offer much assistance to the bowlers, and India appeared comfortable during the initial stages of the day. However, the tide turned when Nathan Lyon bowled to Mohammed Siraj. Siraj attempted a reverse-sweep to a delivery that pitched at a good length, only to find the ball landing straight into the hands of backward point fielder. With that catch, the Australian captain sealed the win and the World Test Championship title.
The Australian team’s triumph signifies their dominance in the longest format of the game. Their exceptional performance throughout the tournament led them to this momentous victory. As the celebrations begin, Australia can revel in the accomplishment of capturing the only missing silverware in their already impressive trophy cabinet.
Steven Smith: It’s a great achievement for this group, we played some good cricket in the last 2 years to get over here, so did India. We got into a nice position on the first day, Trav (Head) played really well, allowed me to anchor the innings, it helped us control the innings well. We know how good Virat is, he’s an exceptional player and when chasing totals, he becomes dangerous. Boland was excellent in the morning spell, hit the right areas consistently, we knew he would produce that outside edge and it did come (talking about his catch).
