Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi has made yet another bizarre remark on India claiming that people are being oppressed in the country. Afridi, who has been garnering headlines for his controversial remarks post his cricket career, was recently slammed by the likes of Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh on Twitter after a video of him went viral, where he can be seen making anti-India comments.
In the video, Afridi who visited Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), can be heard making unacceptable remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Afridi was slammed by several former and current Indian cricketers on Twitter including his good friends Harbhajan and Yuvraj, who admitted they regretted supporting the former Pakistan all-rounder’s foundation.
Yuvraj and Harbhajan had shared videos on their respective social media handles to make an appeal for donations towards Afridi’s foundation in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic. The duo faced intense backlash on social media for their gesture, however, they maintained it was meant for a good cause.
Harbhajan and Yuvraj were infuriated after Afridi’s video went viral where he was seen making anti-India comments. The duo slammed the former Pakistan cricketer and vowed to end all ties with him. Reacting to their reaction against him, Afridi said the duo were compelled to do so.
“I’ll remain thankful towards Harbhajan & Yuvraj for supporting my foundation. The real problem is that this is their compulsion. They live in that country. ”Wo majboor hain.” They know that people are being oppressed in their country. I won’t say anything further,” Afridi said on Pakistan channel Hum News.
“To be honest, he (Afridi) asked us to make an appeal for his charity. In good faith, we did it for humanity and for the people suffering due to the coronavirus. But this man is talking ill about our country. All I have to say is we have nothing to do with Shahid Afridi. He has no right to speak ill against our country and he should stay in his country and limits,” Harbhajan had told Sports Tak as he lashed out at Afridi.
“Really disappointed by @SAfridiOfficial”s comments on our Hon’b PM @narendramodi ji. As a responsible Indian who has played for the country, I will never accept such words. I made an appeal on your behest for the sake of humanity. But never again,” Yuvraj had tweeted.
Gambhir, on the other hand, had called Afridi a 16-year-old and slammed him for spewing venom against India and PM Modi. This is not the first time Afridi found himself on the receiving end for his controversial remarks as he has previously been bashed a lot by many for making anti-India remarks.
