Controversy erupts over Patidar catch

Royal Challengers Bengaluru lost momentum after a flying start from Virat Kohli, who made 28 off 13 balls with five fours and a six before falling to Kagiso Rabada. Kohli had earlier torn into Rabada with five consecutive boundaries in the second over, but the pacer returned with extra bounce and got his revenge as Kohli mistimed a pull.

The dismissal came in a tense passage of play that also saw RCB furious over a separate decision involving Rajat Patidar. Jason Holder took a diving catch at deep square leg off Arshad Khan, but replays led to debate over whether the ball touched the ground. The third umpire ruled Patidar out for 19 off 15, and Kohli was seen arguing with officials after the call.

Kohli’s burst, Patidar’s dismissal, and RCB innings under pressure

Before the controversy, RCB had raced to 71 for 2 in 7 overs after choosing to bat first. Kohli’s early assault set the tone, while Jacob Bethell chipped in briefly before being dismissed for 5. Devdutt Padikkal looked steady with 27 off 16, hitting boundaries and a six, but RCB kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Rajat Patidar added 19 with two fours and a six before his dismissal sparked debate. Jitesh Sharma (1) also fell cheaply, while Tim David (9), Krunal Pandya (0), Padikkal (27), and Kohli (28) formed the batting summary at that stage.

Gujarat bowlers strike back as momentum swings

Gujarat Titans fought back through disciplined bowling. Rabada and Mohammed Siraj provided early breakthroughs, while Arshad Khan and Jason Holder applied pressure in the middle overs. Holder also took a key catch and later added another dismissal, shifting the momentum firmly.

Rashid Khan tightened control in the middle phase, picking up wickets and restricting scoring options. With RCB losing five wickets by the 10th over, Gujarat’s attack pulled the game back after Kohli’s early dominance, leaving the innings finely balanced.
