Wanindu Hasaranga joins elite club with 100 T20I wickets

Sri Lanka’s star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has etched his name in cricket history by becoming just the second Sri Lankan player to claim 100 wickets in T20 International (T20I) cricket. Hasaranga reached this significant milestone during the second T20I against Afghanistan in Dambulla.

With this achievement, Hasaranga joins the elite list of bowlers and becomes the eleventh men’s player overall to achieve this feat. He follows in the footsteps of legendary Sri Lankan bowler Lasith Malinga, who was the first from the island nation to accomplish this milestone.
Remarkably, Hasaranga achieved the milestone in only his 63rd T20I match, making him the second quickest player to reach 100 wickets in T20Is. The leg-spinner’s outstanding performance since his debut in 2019 has made him the leading wicket-taker in men’s T20Is during this period.
In the match against Afghanistan, Hasaranga finished with figures of 2/19 in four overs, further solidifying his status as a key player for Sri Lanka in the T20 format. With 101 wickets in 63 T20Is at an impressive average of 15.36 and a strike rate of 6.78, Hasaranga has emerged as a potent force in international cricket.
Sri Lanka’s victory over Afghanistan in the second T20I not only sealed a 2-0 lead in the three-match series but also marked a memorable moment in Hasaranga’s career as he continues to shine on the global stage.
