Back in 2008, during VVS Laxman’s 100th Test when India played Australia in Nagpur, Laxman described more of a ‘playful’ Dhoni. That Test was also Anil Kumble’s farewell match as he passed the baton to Dhoni to lead the team.
VVS Laxman has mentioned in his autobiography ‘281 and Beyond’ that, “One of my abiding memories is of MS (Dhoni) driving the team bus to the hotel in Nagpur, during my 100th Test. I couldn’t believe my eyes — the captain of the team driving us back from the ground!”
Laxman recalled two quirky moments from Dhoni’s career which he witnessed in the latest episode of Star Sports’ Cricket Connected chat show.
“I still remember him coming back into the dressing room (after his maiden Test ton, versus Pakistan in Faisalabad in 2006) and loudly saying ‘I am going to announce my retirement – MS Dhoni, mai hundred maara Test cricket mein, bas yaar [I, MS Dhoni, have hit a century in Test cricket that’s it!],” Laxman said. Recalling further he mentioned how Dhoni drove the team bus from the stadium to the hotel in Nagpur during the 2008 Test series against Australia.
MS Dhoni retired from Tests in 2014 and from internationals this year. The Indian Premier League shall witness MS Dhoni back in action. The Indian Premier League kicks off from September 19th in the UAE.
