To be fit for Ashes, injured Steve Smith is ready to miss T20 World Cup

Former Australian skipper and current batsman Steve Smith is suffering an elbow injury say that Test cricket remains his top priority and he would not mind missing T20 World Cup to be fit and play well for the Ashes series against England. Presently, he has withdrawn from the ongoing white-ball tour of the West Indies due to his elbow injury.

The batsman reported to total.cricket.com.au on Friday, “There’s still a bit of time between now and T20 World Cup, and I’m tracking ok at the moment – it’s slow, but I’m going ok.” As the T20 world Cup has shifted from India to UAE and Oman due to COVID-19 concerns, the tournament is starting from October 17 to November 14. Meanwhile, the Ashes is set to begin on December 8 in Brisbane.

Smith added, “I would love to be part of the World Cup, for sure. But from my point of view, Test cricket, that’s my main goal – to be right for the Ashes and try to emulate what I’ve done in the last few Ashes series I’ve been involved in.” The batsman got injured during the first half of IPL (Indian Premier League), he had pain in his left wrist after a change in his batting grip and needed painkillers but then after that, he didn’t play a single match. Now as he mentioned in the above statements that he is recovering now but unfortunately ready to miss T20 World Cup for the Ashes. So, he will be seen in action in Ashes starting from December 8.
