RR manager fined after dugout breach

Rajasthan Royals manager Romi Bhinder has been fined ₹1 lakh and issued a warning after being found using a mobile phone in the dugout during a match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Guwahati. The incident came to light through a viral clip, prompting the Board’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) to step in.

Under IPL protocol, phones are permitted in the dressing room but not in the dugout during live play. The breach raised concerns around adherence to anti-corruption guidelines, especially with increased scrutiny on team environments.

ACSU accepts medical explanation

The ACSU sought a response from Bhinder and reviewed his explanation. While initial answers did not satisfy officials, the investigation later accepted that a medical condition required him to keep and use the phone. As this was his first offence, the board limited action to a fine and a warning.

There was no discussion around Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who was seated nearby during the incident. Officials indicated that educating younger members on protocol remains the responsibility of the franchise.

Focus shifts back to RR’s campaign

Rajasthan Royals sit third on the points table with four wins. Their next fixture is against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on April 19.

The question now is whether this episode leads to tighter enforcement across teams. For now, the Royals move on, but the spotlight on dugout conduct is unlikely to fade soon.
