India recently announced their ready-to-go squad for the upcoming major event of ICC T20 World Cup, being held in Australia. Congress leader Tauseef Alam has used cricket as a platform to advance his political agenda, causing a huge outrage over the BCCI’s pick.
According to reports, leader Alam sought to cause a “Hindu-Muslim” uproar when the team was chosen because the MLA was dissatisfied that the BCCI had passed over players like Mohammed Shami, Siraj, or Khaleel Ahmed.
“I will not watch cricket till a fair selection process is put in place. Today, I am amazed how the selectors ignored players like (Mohammed) Shami, (Mohammed) Siraj and Khaleel Ahmed for the T20 World Cup,” read his Facebook post, written in Hindi.
The pacer Shami has been a hot topic in the BCCI’s selection of the team for the ICC T20 World Cup, but it is important to remember that the team will be taking Shami to Australia as a standby player.
When Alam pointed towards Khaleel Ahmed, who was not even in the team’s decision list for T20 World Cup, his trigger point was readily apparent. As the Congress MLA points out, Khaleel, who hasn’t been seen playing for India in a while, is a clear indication of the leader’s expertise in the game of cricket. It was in 2019, when Khaleel was last seen playing in the blues, his last game being against Bangladesh in 2019 (November 10).
