Suranga Lakmal – Right-arm fast bowler and fourth-highest wicket-taker in the Sri Lanka Test cricket history has announced his retirement today. Lakmal made his Test debut against West Indies in 2010 and ODI debut against India in 2009. While his T20 debut came in 2011 against England at Bristol.
Lakmal has taken 168 wickets in 68 Tests at an average of 36.28. While in ODI fixtures, Lakmal has taken 109 wickets in 86 games. In his small T20 Career, Lakmal has taken 8 wickets in 11 matches.
Suranga Lakmal had also captained the Sri Lanka Cricket Team
As a fast bowler, the pacer has also captained the side in 5 test matches. Out of five games, Sri Lanka had won three tests. Under the captaincy of Lakmal, Sri Lanka had defeated South Africa twice followed by West Indies once.

While after the announcement, Lakmal pen down a letter to the Sri Lanka Cricket board,
“I’m indebted to Sri Lanka Cricket for giving me this astonishing opportunity and having faith in me to bring back my motherland honour as it has been an absolute pleasure to be associated with the board that shaped my professional life and also enriched my personal development.”
Lakmal further says,
“I have nothing but the utmost respect for all my players, coaches, team managers, support staff, administrative staff and all other support staff.”
While after this gesture of cricketer, the board himself has his word
“We take this opportunity to wish Lakmal the very best for his future endeavours, and look forward to seeing him perform for the country during the Sri Lanka Tour of India if the selectors consider him for the tour.
Sri Lanka cricket board added further,
“Lakmal has been an excellent contributor for Sri Lanka Cricket and delivered some memorable spells during his national career, and his services will be remembered well.”
