The Australian start Steve Smith is expected to return to action for the continuation of the IPL 2021. The right-handed batsman is currently recovering from an elbow injury who is now seen in the practice nets lately. His compatriot Aaron Finch is back from an injury after undergoing knee surgery and is confident that he will be fit and ready before the World Cup.
Steve Smith has been recovering as expected and is back batting in the nets at New South Wales’ training and is set to be available for the resume of the IPL.
The 14th edition of the IPL was suspended back in May due to the COVID-19 pandemic rise in India. The tournament was rescheduled to be completed between September 19th and October 15th in the UAE. This would see the IPL finishing just two days before the T20 World Cup which had also been relocated from India.
“It seems to be going really well. I know that he’s (Smith) been building up his batting time over the last couple of weeks? I know that would have been difficult to have a time limit on his net times,” Finch told cricket.com.au on Wednesday.
Both Smith and Finch’s return to the T20 squad before the World Cup will be a huge boost for the Aussies who have lost five T20I series in succession while being victorious in just six of their twenty-one matches played in the past year.
