South Africa won the five-match T20 International series by 25 runs over West Indies in the last match at Grenada’s National Cricket Stadium.
The hosts attempted to chase down South Africa’s score of 168 for four but were restricted to 143 for nine as the tourists won the series 3-2. Shamsi had figures of 1-11 in four overs to halt the West Indies victory charge.
South Africa was little bothered after winning the toss, except for losing captain Temba Bavuma for a duck on the third ball of the match.
Quinton de Kock (60) and Aiden Markram (70) put the Proteas on the front foot with the best partnership of the match, not to mention the two best scores, as they combined for 128 runs to put the Proteas ahead.
The South African pair dominated the middle overs, with de Kock scoring his third half-century of the series before guiding his side to 168/4 after 20 overs.
West Indies got off to a good start in their chase thanks to Evin Lewis (52 from 34), but the rest of the batting line-up battled to keep up with him and dropped off the pace, leaving too much to do in the final few overs.
Lungi Ngidi reserved his finest effort for the final game of the series, recording numbers of 3-32.
It’s South Africa’s first T20I series triumph since March 2019 and it comes on the heels of the Proteas Test series victory in the Caribbean earlier this month.
