Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, is preparing to become the next ICC Chairman, although it is unclear whether he has chosen to register his nomination for the position. With support from nearly 15 of the 16 members of the ICC board, the 35-year-old is undoubtedly in the lead, but he has less than 24 hours to decide whether to join the world governing body.
Since the ICC chairman post is an independent position, Shah will be unable to hold both positions at the same time, leading to his resignation from the BCCI. In any case, a bigger question remains: who will replace Shah in BCCI?
Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitley has emerged as the strongest contender for replacing Shah as the new BCCI secretary and there is a general agreement in the Indian board on his name, as per a report in Dainik Bhaskar on Monday.
The new BCCI secretary is going to face significant challenges, particularly in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where a huge auction is scheduled for 2025 and a final decision on retention rules has yet to be announced.
